Apology

UNHEARD, UNFORGIVEN- Vaibhavi Shetty

I said sorry, but you never heard

Standing under the rain, I was waiting.               Hands cold and heart heavy. My apology flew with the wind, But you’ve already turned away.

It stayed there in our little space, Fading away and disappearing, Before it could reach your heart.

I wrote you letters you never read, Folded my guilt in paper cranes. Wished they would fly away to you one day, Hoping you would know – didn’t mean to hurt you.

But the past is a locked drawer.     I lost the key in my very own mistake.     I begged it to give me a second chance, But the answer was only silence.

I was too late. But would it have made a difference if you stayed? Would it have mattered if I had spoken?

You Said Sorry, But It Meant Nothing

Oh, how could you say sorry to me? You sighed in the comfort of your own room. “Don’t worry, the promise won’t be broken.” What a hollow promise that is!

It fell from your lips way too easily.     I am already familiar with that tune,         one that I ignore most of the times.

How much does sorry mean when nothing changes?
